Dave Girling, update 2.
30th OctoberI've been busy kayaking some amazing rivers for many reasons: the beauty of the Hymalaya, the religious significance of the rivers and the quality of the white water.
The Ganga (ganges)- most sacred river in the Hindu faith and some massive waves!
The Alacananda - a tributary of the ganga stretching through Uttaranchal and where, when inspecting a rapid from the bank the highway crew above decided to blow up the cliff and create a new rapid next to us in the river hmmmm!
The Mandakini - Another tributary of the Ganga and one that only a few people have ever kayaked on, so a large reception greeted us along the way with whole villages and towns coming out to see the paisty white people with wierd river things. Often well over a couple of hundred. A amazing river with some steep rapids, scared kayak occupants but smiles in the end.
The Tons - A five day trip which is about to become one day long as the Tons like all the rivers we paddled is to be dammed to make enough power for the fastest growing economic nation in the world.
The Rupin - a small tributary of the tons and to my knowledge the first time anybody has kayaked down it!
Finally the Ram ganga into the Sarju and the border river between India and Nepal, the Kali - A georgeous river again with huge receptions on our way with stunning scenery, vultures, golden eagles, tigers, loads of monkeys and seven kayakers.
