Hi Miss Sorbie,

I know we have our English Prelim tomorrow, which i am feeling okay about....for the time being! However, i wanted to ask you about my SSl, as i have now failed it twice! Sad

I would like some help as to how i could improve my SSL, as i have really worked hard to pass it. Miss Paterson (tutor) advised me to write one paragraph better from my SSL and give to you to mark. Then i could get an idea as to where i am going wrong and how i can sort it. We will proberly have to go over this in class, but i just thought you should know! Smile

Thanks Fiona x

Hi Miss Sorbie,

Here is a paragraph for my SSL and i hope it's right! Sad

The opening of the novel, immediately makes readers aware of why the relationship between the four sisters begins to change. As the novel unfolds, we come to realise that this is an important scene. The eldest sister, Bridie makes us aware of this when she repeats back to her sister, Stella:

"The woman tells you she thinks your own sister's boyfriend might be a child abuser, and you're not supposed to tell anyone? Not even Liddy herself?"

This scene is where the relationship begins to change as Bridie and Stella discuss the neighbours claims that Liddy's boyfriend is a child abuser. Bridie and Stella are left shocked and confused as what action to take regarding their youngest sister. As the novel progresses, we discover both sisters have different ways of dealing with the truth, which is the real reason why the become distant.

I will also give you a copy in class tomorrow if your unable to recieve this tonight.

Hi Fiona,

This is getting a bit better, but I've marked on some bits to show you how you could improve it still.

The opening of the novel immediately makes readers aware of why the relationship between the four sisters begins to change. As the novel unfolds, we come to realise that this is an important scene. The opening reveals to us that one of the sisters' boyfriends is a suspected child abuser, an issue which comes to cause conflict between the sisters.

The idea of this secret between the sisters becomes a real source of conflict for them in the novel.

Hope this helps!
