Guide to PHS LibraryBy Miss McLean on 14/6/2005WHAT'S IN THE LIBRARY?In the library, you will find fiction books (stories) and non-fiction books (information books). The fiction books are arranged by the author's surname. Non-fiction books are arranged by a code number as marked by the sticker on the spines. You will find that the non-fiction books on the same subject are put together on the shelves. Some books are reference only as marked by the sticker on the spine. These books are not for borrowing. These reference books such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases and other similar books are found in the reference section. WHEN CAN I COME TO THE LIBRARY?8.30-8.5011.05-11.20 1.10-1.40 (lunchtime pass holders only) 3.40-4.00 The library is open MONDAY and FRIDAY lunchtimes. Lunchtime passes are limited in number, and are valid only for one day (the date is stamped on the pass). If you want a pass, please see the librarian either before registration or at break on the day or after school the day before. If you need to use the library during class time, ask your teacher for a library pass. HOW DO I BORROW A BOOK?You can borrow one or two books at the same time - no more. Simply bring the book you have chosen up to the issue desk, and it will be stamped with the date by which it should be brought back - usually 2 weeks, and the loan will be recorded on the library computer.Remember, books in the reference section are not for borrowing. WHAT IF I KEEP A BOOK OVERDUE?Try to return you library book on time. Remember that someone else may want to read it. If your book is over a week late, you will receive a letter to give to your parents or guardians with a reminder that fines will be charged the following week at a rate of 50p a week for each late book. Always tell the librarian if there are any special circumstances which make it difficult for you to return your book(s).» Library Index » PHS Online Home |
