Perth High School RecyclesBy Mr Miller | Tuesday 14th Oct 2003 12:00Pupils at PHS XL CLub lead the way in aluminium can recycling....
PHS XL Club pupils have taken the initiative in aluminium can recycling. As part of their two year programme, they had to confront environmental problems in their community, and have come up with the excellent idea of recycling as many of the aluminium cans discarded in the school as possible.
However, not content with only benefiting the school and environment, they have located a group in Blairgowrie called Can-Able, who have learning difficulties, who actually benefit financially from this. The project is entirely run by the pupils and they have sole responsibility for collecting, sorting and crushing the cans in preparation for collection by Can-Able. The biggest task for the keen pupils of the XL Club is however, to try to get the vast majority of pupils to actually use the specific recycling bins located throughout the school, a mammoth task it seems, as most pupils seem to content to throw their cans in the normal rubbish bins! So, on behalf of the XL Club, Can-Able, PHS, and THE ENVIRONMENT, please use the recycling bins... Photos to follow.. |
